Overview

Hackend was founded durring the early 12th century in winter of the year 1123, by Khëî Hazell. The establishment of Hackend was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Khëî Hazell struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Hackend as a prison colony.

Hackend was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 12th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Hackend is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Hackend is buildings are arranged arrounded highly ordered system of broad packed earth streets which form hexical paterns, allowing the incides of the octagons to be common grounds for the buildings on the edges, be it for parkland, yardspace, plazas, or markets. The town is protected by a humble stone fence which is tall enough to provide adiquite cover for defenders to fire from, but no more than that. Hackend's peasent-grade are suffering from significent damage, so much so that examples can be pointed to no matter which section one might have within their line of site, and most of which render sections inoperable at present.

A look around Hackend shows Hackend as a den of corruption. Birbes can be seen changing hands openly, such that it must be customary to do so and must have been for a long time. The locals have no fear, no annoyance at the state of things, it simply is. The town has another layer to it as well. Locals can be overheard having academic discussions, as well as talking about scholarly subjects in general. It’s quite clear Hackend places a lot of value on education and being a learned individual, or at least, faking it.

Cultural Notes

Hackend's locals are divided into several castes. They may be organized by social role, by imputed nobility of birth, by ethnic origins, or any other dividing principle, but they cannot imagine any other way of organizing themselves. A hierarchy of castes is not inevitable, but there will be social and legal limits applied to ensure that each caste remains fixed in its function. The outside world may or may not respect these distinctions when dealing with the locals.

Hackend's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is best known for the combined use of arcuated and trabeated construction, employing arches and constructed with post and lintel. The arch served as the style's chief structural element, with flanking columns serving as buttresses or decorations. While the general shape of their structures could be generously described as simplistic, the use of these arches and columns created a most distinct ascetic which is easily distinguishable on sight to armatures and experts alike.

In Hackend every night at precisely midnight every structure in town is engulfed by sailors fire until the end of the witching hour.

The Herd Animal, Sheep near Hackend are known to be more aggressive than normal.

Hackend's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves sex to channel Chronomancy energies of tier 3 via divine sermons.
